Trunk Show

Image
Happy end of October art lovers!   I just wanted to  give you all a quick peek at a recent  trunk show I did last month at  Ed & Eva 's located in Greenfield, Iowa... and extend a special thank you to Catherine and Denise for helping to   make it a success! The drive to Greenfield was filled with fabulous rolling hills,  quaint little farms and  huge puffy white clouds. Surrounded by other original artwork, my colorful works of art  fit right in and really  stood out against the newly refinished hard wood floors. Of course I got to show my latest piece called "dream"... and got to meet and talk to some pretty amazing people who all made me feel right at home! If you're ever in Greenfield, make sure you take a look at the beautifully restored Opera House  located next door! And then, be sure to pick up some great gifts created by amazing local artists selling at Ed...

New Mixed Media~ Blooming Bright

Image
Even though it's already August, my brightly colored  garden is still in full bloom!   The flowers just keep coming and coming... as do the bright colors. This time I've added pages from a vintage book and allowed some of the doodled flower shapes to show in the final piece. It measures 20" x 20" and can be viewed at Fuss It Up! Designs in Valley Junction. I've also completed 4 little mixed media flower canvases which is being made into a fun tutorial! Happy painting... xoxo

Owlie Glam Paintings

Image
I've recently completed three colorful owl paintings! They were created using pencil, water colour crayons, oil pastels, acrylic paint, glitter and last but not least... a collaged beak!  I've already sold one and these two are left! It all started one lazy Monday afternoon when I noticed a fabulous background that needed a focal point! I had been doodling cute little chunky owls for another project and so that's what came out!  And my doodled owls were very girlie with long curled eyelashes. Owlie Glam Series  11" x 14"  ...$98 The backgrounds are stamped and stenciled  with my favorite tools and  the layers are painted  with whimsey and freeform marks! Owlie Glam Series  11" x 14" ... $98 It was very important to me to keep a light, happy feel with painterly marks.   I like how the water colours add a dreamy quality to them... and how the backgrounds still peak through in different place...

Paint Party Friday!!!

Image
Celebrating  my daughter...  Monet . For today's Paint Party Friday post I'm privileged to share a fabulous work in progress by my oldest daughter Monet and a little but about her!   Monet is a self taught painter and is currently a student of life...  studying fashion design at FIDM in L.A. She surprised us all by flying in for my son's graduation after telling us she couldn't make it! She's one of my top three favorite people in the world and never ceases to amaze me with her talents and ability to make the world  break into a colorful song and dance everywhere she goes! Although her visit was too short, we did as many of  our favorite things as we could. One of which is always finding a new place to eat lunch and try new foods.    We also discovered the cutest little boutique in downtown Des Moines owned by a former FIDM student... which Monet knew from L.A!  It's called Mint L.A. Bo...

Paint Party Friday!

Image
It's Friday once again and the paint has been flowing! A few posts ago I blogged about painting three canvases that were not stretched yet but stapled to the wall.  I finally got them stretched and got to work on them again! Of course I added some drips and dots... and color and contrast! I found hearts and circles... and a few things with wings! I had so much fun but didn't have a lot of time... now I can hardly wait to paint  more tomorrow! Check out other fabulous artwork at these awesome sites...   Paint Party Friday and  Sneak Peek Friday ! Happy painting fellow artist... have a great weekend! xoxo

In the Studio: Stencils and Dots

Image
As a mixed media artist, I LOVE stencils! I also love dots... you know, circles! Yesterday in the studio I decided to use some stencils I hadn't used in a while in building up my layers.  It started out pretty innocently... but ended up with a wild,  out of control, dots on everything party! A few dots here... a few dots there... pretty soon dots were everywhere! I loved my dot party!  And will definitely keep my  oldie but goodie dot stencil handy! I hope you get to paint today, and if you do... be inspired and add some dots! Happy painting! xoxo
